Founded in 2006, the En Sound Music Awards is the Premier and the world's most recognized Indie Gospel Music Award show of its kind, garnering votes from 30 plus countries. It provides an outlet where indie and unsigned artists are recognized for their contribution to the Gospel music industry, awarding them in multiple categories and various genres of Gospel music. In addition, the En Sound Music Awards has created an outlet where these artists can be seen and heard nationally and internationally, thus exposing their work to a global audience.

In the past, the indie artists have attempted to create a demo to present to a major label in hopes of being discovered. The music industry was a much closed entity that did not allow these artists to produce quality products or to obtain distribution or recognition. Another challenge the indie artists faced was the limited access to radio due to politics and the pay-for-play mentality that existed in radio promotion. Indie artists now have access to technology that they previously only dream of. The internet has opened up a new method of distribution and exposure and so, indie artists are no longer dependent upon the major labels to move their products. It is for this and other reasons why this award show was created to honor these artists' hard work and dedication to their craft.
